The offal of daily attrition: prime cuts, odds & ends

10.1.11

I began reading College Physics (Serway/Vuille) and became aware that science really is a religion unto itself. Physics is based on three fundamental quantities: Length, Mass, Time.

Using Système International (SI) the units used are: meter, kilogram, and second. All well and good until you get into the standards of what defines each unit of measure.

Meter - Distance traveled by light in vacuum during time interval of 1 / 299 792 458 second

Kilogram - Mass of a specific platinum-iridium alloy cylinder

Second - 9 192 631 700 times the period of oscillation of radiation from the cesium-133 atom

Juxtaposed to these definition are archive photos of the platinum-iridium alloy cylinder and the cesium-133 atomic clock which might as well serve as icons.
Science, you quirky religion.

While we're on the topic, what's with the Western preoccupation with trinities?
